Flawless

Eden a 17-year-old high school student discovers that her two best friends Tigist and Keshet, are planning to sell their kidneys to pay for cosmetic surgery and a dress for the prom. Eden, who is secretly a Trans woman, realizes that this may be the answer to her prayers. She joins the others on their journey to Kiev to exchange their kidneys for the flawless body of their dreams. Their trip does not go as planned and when Eden’s secret is exposed, all three of them need to come to terms with the prejudices they have and redefine who they really want to be in this world.

In their second film, Maymon and Granit confront the discords, divisions and polarization in Israeli Society today specifically the difficulty to accept those who are different in their body image and gender identity. The film also touches on the theme of self-acceptance and love.

From the director's notes:  “Flawless” deals with questions pertaining to gender identity and body image. What determines our gender identity? Is it how we look or something internal hidden from the eye? What role does society play when we form our identity and the gender roles we take upon ourselves? We live in a period in which almost everything takes place in social media and via telephone screens, which accentuate body image and looks, consequently the gap between our image and reality fades. In this chaos of images, Eden’s strong and authentic will power stands out. The hero of our film is a transgender who is led by her inner truth. Tigists need to feel that she belongs and Keshet's strong need for love are prominent as well. "

Stav Strashko, a transgender herself, performs the lead role; this is her first movie performance for which she received a nomination for Best Actress at the Israel "Ophir" (Oscar) competition.

"It was clear to us that we need to cast a transgender woman for the lead role. During the casting period we met many transgender women. Than we read an article with Stav in which she spoke of her individual process. When we met and read the script with her, she read Eden's lines with tears running down. It was contagious, say Maymon and Granit. "During our work together, there were times that we didn’t feel there was a division between the character of Eden and Stav. The lines and the dialogues Stav performed were not new or unfamiliar to her she brought the character of Eden to life in a way we could only dream of. "

The Farewell Party directed by Maymon and Granit in 2014 premiered at the 2014 Venice Film Festival. "In our previous films, we confronted issues dealing with social boundaries and progress in "Flawless" too we continue to develop the theme in which the "Other" is perceived as threatening to the social order." said the directors.
